The news: Google, Apple, and Meta are rolling back services for users in Russia amid growing concerns about disinformation and the ongoing war in Ukraine.

  • Apple has removed more than 50 virtual private networks (VPNs) from Russia’s App Store since July, per GreatFire.
  • Google restricted Russian users from making new accounts and deactivated AdSense accounts, per Reuters, following criticism from Moscow over Google’s blocking of Russian media YouTube channels.
