Hims telehealth adds direct-to-consumer lab testing

The news: Telehealth company Hims & Hers is adding direct-to-consumer (D2C) lab testing services in a partnership with Quest Diagnostics, giving consumers a way to identify potential health risks on their own.

  • Consumers can get blood drawn at more than 1,000 Quest labs in the US.
  • Healthcare providers on the Hims’ platform will then review results and consult with patients.
  • The two test offerings cost $199 for one blood draw and 50 biomarker tests, and $499 for two draws and 120 biomarker tests.
  • The prices are in line with what “the majority of the country can afford,” Hims CEO Andrew Dudum told WSJ.

Why it matters: About 14 billion lab tests are performed in the US every year, and 70% of clinical decisions rely on lab results, per the CDC.

Specifically, more than half (50.5%) of US adults have used a lab test or screening such as a blood test or mammogram in the past year, per EMARKETER’s digital healthcare survey in January.
